SERNbc’s mission is to manage the structure and function of vulnerable and degraded ecosystems in Northern BC to achieve a desired future condition that will sustain ecological services and human socio-economic needs.
The Nechako Environmental Enhancement Fund (NEEF) is a fund that was established as part of the BC/Alcan 1997 Agreement between the province of BC and Rio Tinto. As part of the agreement, Rio Tinto will contribute up to $50 million to the NEEF, on a matching dollar basis.
The four priorities focus on relationships with First Nations communities and groups, advocacy with the Province to ensure that the needs of the region are represented, improving the housing supply within the region, and supporting and diversifying the local economy.
The Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society assists the people of North West British Columbia, and in particular the Nechako region and Kitamaat Village, by investing in sustainable economic and community stability projects in the area most affected by the Kemano project and the creation of the Nechako Reservoir.
Indigenous Support
We are honored to have the support of Saik’uz First Nation for our Phase II Macrophyte Harvesting Project in Nulki and Tachick Lakes. Saik’uz has long recognized these lakes as a vital part of their Traditional Territory, with deep cultural and economic significance.
Their letter of support highlights the urgent environmental challenges facing the watershed, including increased sedimentation, nutrient loading, algal blooms, and fish die-offs. With their backing, NTLSS is committed to restoring water quality and ecosystem health through collaborative efforts.
